Delores Ann Pullard, hailing from De Quincy, Louisiana, and born on August 13, 1946, was a towering figure, standing at 7 feet 5.5 inches (227.3 cm).
Raised by parents of above-average height, her unique stature drew her to the Walter Wamous sideshow at the age of 19, where she was promoted as “The Tallest Woman in the World” at a billed height of 8 feet 1 inch. Her fame grew when a misunderstanding led to her being reported as 8 feet 2 inches tall, stemming from her response of “8-2” when asked about her height. In reality, she measured 82 inches (6 feet 10 inches) at the age of 14.
Despite various sensational stories, including claims that she was 7 feet tall at the age of 7, Delores weighed 431 pounds and wore size 23 shoes. After approximately three years with the sideshow, she married a fellow sideshow employee, Mr. James Johnson, who stood at 6 feet 1 inch.
On March 11th, she underwent surgery to remove a tumor from her pituitary gland, located at the base of her brain. Initially, her condition seemed satisfactory after the operation, but she unfortunately did not recover and passed away on May 19th, 1971. It’s worth noting that she might have still been in a phase of growth at the time of her passing.
Back to the tallest people ever.
